Bella Vista Motel Hamilton - Hamilton Attractions and Activities
Waikato is incredibly fresh and green, its fertile soils and lush grasslands place it among the finest agricultural and farming areas New Zealand has to offer.
Waikato's main centre, Hamilton, is the fourth largest city in New Zealand and the new home of V8 street race and base for the Rally of NZ! Venturing out from the city in any direction, visitors can encounter a number of small towns dotted throughout the countryside, each with its own character and subtle charm.
Hamilton offers one of the best ways to see the Waikato River. On the banks of the river you'll discover the Waikato Museum of Art and History, featuring some of the best exhibits of Waikato heritage, art and New Zealand Culture.
Hamilton's other main cultural showpiece is the National Agricultural Heritage exhibition at Mystery Creek, which sports a range of fascinating working exhibits.
Discover the largest freeflight aviary in the Southern Hemisphere and some of the best displays of native birds and wildlife at Hamilton Zoo and Freeflight Sanctuary. Enjoy a meal in the city buzzing with a great selection of restaurants, bars and cafes.
Stroll through some of New Zealand's best-kept gardens including the stunning themed gardens at Hamilton Gardens, or visit herb gardens and lavender farms. Head off the beaten track and discover waterfalls and wonderful bushwalks.
Take time out and escape to the quaint rural towns of the Waikato including the charming town of Cambridge with its English pubs, village green and nationally renowned selection of antique and art and craft shops. Visit a winery or two and sample some award winning local wines, or enjoy a round of golf at one of the region's 38 courses.
For thrill seekers one visit to the Waikato won't be enough. For an adventure with a difference, head underground to Waitomo Glowworm Caves - experience cave rafting or cave tubing floating along an underground stream on inner tubes, or abseil into a "Lost World".
Above ground try hot air ballooning, a 4-wheel bike ride or horse trekking adventure though spectacular native bush and farmland. Near Matamata, you can visit the remnants of the original Hobbiton village set from The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. With many rivers throughout the region, including New Zealand's longest, you can enjoy kayaking, jet-boating, water skiing and tubing. Whatever you do - your adrenaline will be pumping you'll still be on a high long after you return home.
Hamilton couldn't be easier to get to, with easy driving distances and plenty of places to stop for a break. Make the most of your visit and stay for a few days!
